Summer Reading Challenge

Why is summer reading so important?

Although school is over for the year, it is important to encourage your child to read daily. Summer reading provides a great way for your child to learn new things, explore topics of interest, and feed their curiosity over the vacation months. It also has been shown to help maintain reading skills learned during the school year, increase vocabulary and reading fluency.

As a district, we have developed our Summer Reading Challenge to encourage reading over the vacation.

Is your child up for the challenge?

How does the POB Summer Reading Challenge work?

1. Keep track of all the reading challenges you complete on the Summer Reading Challenge bookmark.

2. At the end of August, go to this page, and submit the summer reading challenge form.

(Forms will not be up on the website until the end of summer)

3. Earn a prize for completing at least 15 of the summer reading challenges!

One class on every grade level will win a trophy for doing the most summer reading!

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library also offers a wonderful summer reading program for children! Visit the public library to sign up!
