Department of Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Recreation “Mattlin Gets Fit with the Community” Ms. Gasborro and the Mattlin Physical Education Department will be hosting the 1st Annual “Mattlin Gets Fit with the Community” program. Ms. Gasborro will be conducting a hour long fitness program designed for adults and middle school students to get fit together. The event takes place on May 17, 2013 at the Mattlin Gym from 3 to 4 pm. This program is part of the month long celebration National Physical Fitness and Sport Month. During the month of May, we are encouraging all students to get 60 minutes of physical activity a day. We are also encouraging our parents to get 150 minutes of physical activity a week. For more information on National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and how to lead a healthy and physically fit lifestyle please go to www.fitness.gov Nicholas Laiosa named to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame Nicolas Laiosa, was recently named as a recipient of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award. Nicholas was also named honorable Mention All-County. Gymnast Jessica Lopez named to the ALL-LONG ISLAND Gymnastic Team Lopez took third in the Nassau qualifier with a 35.575 in only her first year on varsity. Her 9.405 on beam was enough for third in the state tournament. Above all, Lopez showed maturity and adaptability - getting stronger and scoring bigger numbers as the season progressed, and anchoring a 9-1 Plainview team stacked with senior talent. As a sophomore Chris batted .353 and threw out 75 percent of base stealers. He also earned All-Conference honors.
